About me

Joao in London

Immigrant

At 18, I left my hometown of Lisbon for the UK where I lived 15 years. This has given me the opportunity to become fluent in English whilst learning about different cultures, diverse human stories and a whole lot about myself.

Community Centre

Community Work

Working with the homeless community one Christmas changed the trajectory of my life and led me to pursue my studies in psychology, as well as engage in other work with non-profits (4+ years) with individuals from low-income families who had no realistic access to long-term psychological support.

Comic Book

Superheroes

Having been subjected to trauma from a young age, I often found safety in the fantasy world of superheroes, where I learned that being different could be a empowering. This has given me a unique perspective that I bring when working with people who have experienced trauma, are neurodivergent, or belong to the LGBTQIA+ community.
